FERC case study

Clarity at scale.

FERC.gov serves as the authoritative public record for federal energy regulation, compliance, and reporting. Mobomo partnered with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to modernize a highly data-dense, legacy web presence that had become difficult for users to navigate and search. By restructuring the content model, simplifying information architecture, and migrating tens of thousands of static pages into a dynamically managed Drupal platform, we transformed a needle-in-a-haystack experience into a clear, user-friendly resource trusted by landowners, industry stakeholders, and the public.

Mobomo + FERC

At a glance.

How Mobomo and the Federal Regulatory Commision (FERC) worked together.
  • Modernized a highly data dense regulatory website into an intuitive, user first public resource.
  • Migrated and restructured thousands of pages into a scalable Drupal platform designed for clarity, searchability, and long-term governance.
  • Delivered a modern content management foundation supported by documentation, training, and operational readiness for sustained agency ownership.
the challenge

Untangling complex data.

FERC.gov serves as the authoritative source for federal energy regulation, compliance, and reporting. Over time, the site had grown into a highly fragmented, static web presence containing tens of thousands of pages, making it difficult for users to locate critical information efficiently.

The legacy content model created navigation challenges, duplicated materials, and limited search effectiveness. Regulatory documents, filings, and guidance were buried within dense page structures, resulting in a needle in a haystack experience for landowners, industry stakeholders, and the public.

To move forward, FERC needed to simplify its content architecture, migrate large volumes of legacy material, and establish a scalable foundation that could support accurate reporting, governance, and future growth without disrupting access to mission critical information.

The solution

Empowerment by design.

Mobomo designed the FERC platform not only for launch, but for sustained success. Alongside the technical solution, we equipped FERC teams with the documentation, training, and operational practices needed to manage the platform confidently and independently.

Icon

Enablement & training

Mobomo delivered structured training and hands on knowledge transfer to prepare FERC staff to operate and maintain the platform day to day. This included administrator guidance, publishing workflows, and operational best practices tailored to FERC’s internal teams and governance model.

Icon

Operational readiness

We provided governing and administrative documentation to support long term platform management, including environment oversight, change processes, and operational responsibilities. The goal was to transition routine administration to FERC while maintaining clear escalation paths and support continuity.

Governance & best practices

Mobomo supported FERC’s security and change management teams with documented best practices for system configuration, updates, and software implementation. This governance framework helped reinforce consistency, reduce risk, and support ongoing platform evolution without introducing unnecessary complexity.

the results

Platform performance designed for adoption.

Mobomo’s modernization of FERC.gov transformed a complex, regulation-heavy website into a clear, usable public resource while enabling internal teams to confidently manage and evolve the platform. The redesigned experience improved content discoverability, reduced user friction, and established a scalable foundation for long-term governance and growth.

Icon
Improved Public Access

Users can now quickly find regulatory filings, guidance, and documentation through simplified navigation, structured content, and enhanced search capabilities.

Icon
Operational Independence

FERC staff were equipped with the tools, documentation, and training needed to manage content, workflows, and platform operations with confidence.

Icon
Sustainable CMS Management

Standardized templates, reusable content types, and governance practices reduced manual effort and supported consistent publishing across the site.

Meaningful impact

Operationalizing adoption.

Mobomo worked with the FERC Office of External Affairs (OEA) to make sure the rest of the FERC agency was well prepared for adopting the new Drupal-managed website.

Training & messaging enablement

Mobomo equipped CMA and OEA teams with plain-language training and messaging guidance to confidently explain, support, and advocate for the new FERC.gov experience.

Streamlined editorial workflows

Simplified Drupal workflows reduced complexity, clarified roles, and enabled teams to publish and maintain content efficiently without technical bottlenecks.

Ownership & organizational readiness

Documentation, governance practices, and hands-on knowledge transfer prepared FERC teams to manage the platform independently and sustain long-term success.

Mobomo’s work with FERC extended beyond launch to establish durable governance, sustainable workflows, and a platform built to evolve alongside regulatory needs. By prioritizing usability, content clarity, and organizational readiness, the redesigned FERC.gov continues to serve as a reliable, user-centered resource for complex regulatory information.
