Massive migration, zero downtime

NASA.gov needed more than an upgrade; it required a full-scale transformation. With over 250,000 pages, 1.4 million assets, and 3 terabytes of data, the site had to seamlessly migrate from a proprietary data center and CMS into the Amazon Cloud powered by Drupal 7. Adding to the complexity, the migration needed to occur without a second of downtime or service disruption.

 Additionally, the platform needed to scale to handle peaks of over 5 million daily page views and support 250 content editors performing more than 1,000 updates per day. It also had to empower space enthusiasts across the globe with a sleek, mobile-first design that provided instant access to NASA’s remarkable content.
